This place is easy to locate for tourists visiting the city of Dar es Salaam, one of the most popular attractions & a historically important site is the Askari Monument. It is located at city centre called posta mpya , the Askari Monument stands on the exact location where the statue of Major Herman Von Wissmann once stood. A German soldier & explorer, Major Wissmann in the year 1895 became the Governor of German East Africa. In the year 1911, the very first statue of this German soldier was erected in order to celebrate the German’s victory in the year 1888. However, in the year 1916 when Dar es Salaam was captured by the British, the statue was demolished.
